Assessment of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energetic Potential from Solid Waste Landfills in Jordan: A Comparative Modelling Analysis

Landfilling of solid waste has been and continues to be among the most common practices disposal. This is particularly true for Jordan, where approximately 3.3 million tons municipal (MSW) annually generated, with 90% generated amount disposed into landfills. The main objective this study estimate quantities landfill gas (LFG) from disposal its potential as a source clean energy in Jordan using four different models, namely, GasSim 2.5, LandGEM, Afvalzorg, Mexico Landfill Gas Model V2 (MLFGM V2). Furthermore, greenhouse (GHG) mitigation LFG projects was estimated. Currently, there are 18 active landfills that distributed across country. Based on screening criteria, were grouped three categories: five considered production, strong candidates collection flaring, while remaining nine do not receive enough either recovery or flaring. total emissions found 1.6 billion M3 LFG, energetic recovered estimated 34.8 MW. On other hand, GHG assessed between years 2020 2030, which ton CO2 eq. proposed will lead increased biogas contribution Jordan’s local renewable mix current level 1% 6%.
